Local Lifestyle
Even though it’s a robust technology hub, Sunnyvale is laid-back and peaceful. Downtown doesn’t feel like a metropolitan city center, and the city has kept much of its suburban appeal and quaint small-town charm. Simultaneously, Sunnyvale’s central location makes it easy to visit or commute to neighboring towns. It also has diverse, tight-knit communities with over two dozen neighborhood associations.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
There are numerous bustling eateries along Murphy Avenue downtown. Family-owned Dishdash Middle Eastern Cuisine has hearty dishes made fresh daily. Their lively and colorful restaurant features regional artwork on the walls. The Oxford Kitchen and Gastropub is a British-themed restaurant serving California-inspired food and cocktails. For unique Japanese fare, Fugetsu serves Kansai cuisine and a dish popular in western Japan called Okonomiyaki, a savory crepe-style mix of vegetables, meat or fish, and batter. For traditional sushi, Rokko specializes in Izakaya-style rolls and teriyaki.
For ramen, Ramen Seas has fried meats and savory noodle bowls. Highly rated for its extensive menu, Burma Taste has noodles, meat entrees, and vegetarian options. Further out is a small, popular bakery, Sugar Butter Flour, with cookies, pastries, made-to-order cakes, and light lunch fare. Located inside Wyndham, Sifu Wong Kitchen offers traditional Chinese cuisine, a poolside patio, and banquet halls.
There are several shopping plazas along El Camino Real. Allario Shopping Center has specialty food grocery stores and a few other services. The Civic Square Shopping Mall has a salon and an international market. The Sunnyvale Farmers’ Market features local produce, fresh meats, and ready-to-eat food on Saturdays.
Things to Do
Sunnyvale has numerous parks. The 70-acre Baylands Park has a network of trails, picnic areas, a playground, and a wetlands preserve. The Baylands Grove Amphitheater features public sculptures and hosts outdoor events throughout the year. Ortega Park has sports facilities, including basketball, tennis, and cricket. Las Palmas Park features a dog run, tennis courts, and a playground. Ponderosa Park is a western-themed neighborhood park with paved trails and a tennis court.
